Nutrition tips for summer potlucks and parties:
  • Boost flavor in water by adding mint leaves, citrus fruits, or frozen fruit. Limit yourself to one or two “special” beverages like punch or alcoholic drinks.
  • Keep hot foods hot and cold foods cold until serving. Don’t leave food at room temperature for more than 2 hours.
  • Plan your plate. Take a quick lap around the food table before going down the line and filling up. Fill half your plate with salads and vegetables, avoid salads with creamy dressings, and choose lean protein (fish, chicken, beef). Remember to take small servings, you can always go back for seconds. Finally, skip the hamburger bun to save calories for dessert!
