Erika’s Tip – More Apples!
I can’t get enough apples this time of year!
Have you ever had apple butter? You may be surprised that a nutritionist is recommending something with the word “butter” in the name! But apple butter isn’t a dairy product, it’s a very concentrated, caramelized, and spiced form of applesauce. You can slather it on toast, swirl it into plain yogurt or oatmeal, or use it as the “sweet” on a sweet and savory turkey sandwich! I haven’t tried it, but I’ve even seen it used on BBQ spare ribs.
Be careful, not all apple butters are the same. Many commercially prepared apple butters or apple butter recipes contain sugar and cider, making them very high in calories. Check out this easy recipe which uses only apples, spices, and water. It’s delicious and your home will smell amazing while it’s cooking!
