Erika’s Tip – What’s for lunch?
What do you have for lunch most days? Do you go out, order in, attend a meeting that includes lunch?
Even if you think you’re choosing a “healthy” lunch on the go, it may in fact be very unhealthy based on portion size, preparation methods, and ingredients.
Restaurants and fast food chains want their food to taste good. They want you to come back! Even a simple salad containing a protein and veggies can have excessive amounts of sauces, marinades, dressings, sugar, and salt. If you recreated that same salad at home, it would contain less calories and salt.
Also, the salad you would make at home would probably be 50% smaller than the salad you purchase on the go.
Even if your lunch is leftovers from last night’s dinner, it’s likely to contain 50% less calories than a lunch out.
Do yourself a healthy favor…pack your lunch!
