Erika’s Tip – Meet Some Not-So-Familiar Fruits

Have you seen some not-so-familiar fruits in your local grocery store?

Don’t be afraid to try these three exotic fruits! They’re good sources of Vitamin C and fiber.

Prickly Pear – also known as cactus pear. The tough exterior needs to be peeled, revealing the edible flesh inside. It can be eaten raw, pureed into juices, or cooked into sauces and jams. The hard seeds inside need to be removed or spit out.

Starfruit – mildly sweet, slightly acidic, crisp texture, with thin, edible skin. Starfruit can be eaten raw. It’s great in a fruit salad, on top of yogurt, or blended into smoothies.

Kumquat – looks like a mini orange (pictured). A Kumquat has a sweet and tart flavor. The entire fruit is edible, including the peel. Kumquats can be added to salads, salsa, cooked into jams, and baked into cakes.
