My husband and I have a special needs 3-year-old daughter. She has speech delays and does not understand a lot of language. Teaching her to wait and have patience is difficult because of the language gap. Going to the Y she has learned she has to wait up front to scan in, so she can go to the childwatch or swim, then go hang her jacket and sign in childwatch, then she gets to play. While for most that sounds like nothing but for her it’s big progress. It’s carried over into other areas where she needs to wait. Also, the staff is always so sweet to her and always helpful. She’s also building her core muscle strength she needs by swimming. Joining the Y was a great blessing in disguise for us!
