The popularity of pickles is proliferating!

Pickles have been named a top food trend in 2018 and 2019. Though pickled vegetables are most common, a pickle technically can be any food – cucumber, egg, herring, green beans, carrots, jalapenos, asparagus, beets, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower.

Pickles fall into two major categories based on the pickling liquid used – brine or vinegar. Both involve acid and salt.

Nutritionally, the sodium content in pickles can be a concern for people with a restricted sodium intake. Sweet pickles tend to be lower in sodium than savory pickles.

A medium size cucumber pickle ranges from 7-59 calories, with sweeter pickles being on the higher end of calories.
