Tips for a Happy and Healthy Thanksgiving
- Don’t deprive yourself. It’s one day. Enjoy it. Make good choices leading up to Thanksgiving Day and get right back on track Friday.
- Certain holiday foods really aren’t that special. Skip the cheese and crackers or typical appetizers – you can have those any time. Save room to indulge on seasonal favorites like stuffing, gravy, pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce, etc.
- Take advantage of seasonal produce. We tend to think Thanksgiving foods are turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and cheesy or creamy casseroles (which are delicious!). But don’t forget kale, collards, butternut squash, delicata squash, beets, parsnips, carrots, and turnips (which are also delicious).
- Don’t forget to hydrate! Some people can mistake hunger for thirst. Drinking water throughout the day can help your body have a better sense of when you’re full. If you’re enjoying alcoholic beverages, try to alternate with water or seltzer.
