It’s Nutrition Report Card Time!

After years of advice and recommendations (some from health professionals, and some not!), and low carb diets touted all over social media, the report is in:  American adults are still consuming too many poor quality carbohydrates – sugars, starchy vegetables, and refined grains. This is according to researchers at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, who studied dietary trends over an 18 year period.

The take away –

Carbohydrates do not need to be removed from the diet, but the carbs you consume should be whole grains, whole fruits, and vegetables.

Additionally, most of the protein Americans consume is from meats. Protein should also come from seafood and plant sources such as nuts, seeds, legumes, and whole grains.
