SPECIAL OLYMPICS SWIM TEAM
- Swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards independently using the following strokes: freestyle (no doggie paddle) or backstroke.
- Tread water for 1 minute.
- Swimmers must be able to follow directions from coaches on deck.
We offer two practices a week to train, improve swimming skills and build endurance. Swim practices are held on Mondays and Fridays4:45 pm – 5:30 pm at the Deer Path Branch of the Y. The swim team season runs from November through June. Swimmers have the opportunity to compete at the Area Meet, and based on their qualifications, can advance to the Sectional and State meets.
Interested parties may contact Rita Read, Head Coach, at rarinfo@comcast.net for more information.
We encourage those who cannot meet the Special Olympics requirements to consider appropriate Y group or individual swim lessons to help prepare them to become a team member. Hunterdon County Y offers swim lessons for all ages and abilities. See Swim Lessons for details.
