Special Olympics Swim Team
The Special Olympics HCY Dolphins Swim Team is a volunteer organization that introduces individuals with special needs to athletic competition. Hunterdon County Area 4 Special Olympics swimming provides opportunities to develop skills for ages 10 to adults.
Swim practices are held Mondays 4:45 pm – 5:30 pm and Fridays 4:00 pm – 4:45 pm at the Deer Path Branch of the Y. The swim team season runs from September through June. Swimmers have the opportunity to compete at the Area Meet, and based on their qualifications, can advance to the Sectional and State meets.
Enrollment is now closed for the current season. It will open again in September, 2019.
Swimmers participating in this program should have basic knowledge of swimming, must be able to participate in a group, and will demonstrate each of the following:
- Swim 2 lengths of the pool using one or more of the following strokes: breaststroke or freestyle (no doggie paddle);
- Swim one length using an easy, resting backstroke;
- Tread water for 1 minute.
For those who cannot swim (or are still learning to swim) the Hunterdon County Y offers swim lessons for all ages and abilities. See Swim Lessons for details.
Interested parties may contact Aphrodite Fluke, Head Coach, at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
